sipxpbx version 2.8.1 released

the sipxpbx team is happy to announce the release of version 2.8.1.

this version has a great many ease-of-use and configuration
improvements.

important notes

important known issues

new features:

dial plan configurations in web ui

release 2.8 adds the ability to configure dial plans and gateways
with an easy-to-use graphical user interface (gui). this makes
configuring dial plan and gateways much easier than release 2.6,
which requires an administrator to edit the underlying
configuration files in xml format.

back up from web ui

release 2.8 adds the ability for an administrator to manually back

up the system through the web interface. the backup files should
be stored in a separate storage medium so that they can later be
used to restore a system back to a previously saved state.

media server audio quality and scalability enhancements

release 2.8’s media server has been optimized to support up to 30
simultaneous connections for voice mail and auto attendant, with
99.99% availability and much improved audio quality.

polycom sip phone provisioning

release 2.8 provides an easy-to-use gui to provision polycom
soundpoint 300, 500, and 600 ip phones.

call forwarding and follow-me via config server user portal

release 2.8 enhances config server’s user portal to allow users to
configure call forwarding and follow-me options.

911 fallback rules

in the case where sip phones and a pstn gateway are located in a
remote office from the sipxchange, release 2.8 adds a
configuration gui to route 911 calls to the correct gateway. note:
this is only to be used as a fallback rule. phones that support
direct gateway connectivity for emergency calls should be used in
this distributed environment.

log in to voice mail box directly, skipping user greeting

when a caller tries to access his voicemail, he is now able to
skip the greeting by pressing the key "*" and go directly to the
password verification prompt.

multiple auto-attendant menus (for advanced voicexml administrators
only)

release 2.8 supports multiple auto-attendant menus. however, this
feature requires an administrator to understand voicexml very
well, so it is only for advanced voicexml administrators only.
this feature will be improved in a future release so that an
administrator does not need to understand voicexml at all.

subscription-state header in notify

release 2.8 adds support for the subscription-state header in
notify request per rfc 3265 - session initiation protocol
(sip)-specific event notification. this should improve
interoperability with ip phones.

uninstall script

release r2.8 adds the ability to uninstall sipxchange by typing

/usr/bin/sipx-uninstall

checking start-up status of sipxchange’s services

release 2.8 adds the ability to check the status of all sipxchange
services by typing:

/sbin/service sipxpbx status

this is a useful command when you first start up sipxchange. some
sipxchange’s services take a while to start up, so it is
recommended that you use the above command to make sure that all
sipxchange services are up and running before proceeding.

checking sipxchange configuration

release 2.8 adds the ability to check the validity of the
configuration files by typing:

/sbin/service sipxpbx configtest

this is a useful command whenever you modify the configuration
files, and is run for you before sipxchange services are started.
any problems are displayed on standard error and logged to
/var/log/messages. if this test is performed as part of starting
the services, the startup is not affected by finding an error; the
services will continue to start even if errors are found (but may
not operate correctly).
