50 user voip over wi-fi uk deployment - your comments?

most ap's run 35mw not 100mw

when planning your aps ensure that :

a) you frequency plan overlapping coverage like "olymipc rings "

using channels numbers :

1 4 8 12

or

1 5 9 13

or if theres no other wifi around

1 6 13

such that no two neighbouring aps are on the same frequency - remember wlan is not ethernet !!!!

next try to get all your client facing ap's in a common subnet so that as your clients move around the room they can perform layer two mobility between aps (saves all that home agent / foreign agent mobility stuff)

if you are considering using wifi as a backhaul between your aps and
your sdsl pipe, consider using wistech cm-9 cards - run the backhaul on 802.11a turbo (108mbps) and restrict your clients to 11b speeds .

ideally never exceed more than 30 associated clients per ap remember that 802.11 is half duplex and is multiple access based upon available "random slots" in transmission.

if you get too much overlap wind the ap power down not up !! :roll: :roll:

i have had several such systems running fine with this both professionally and as part of a local community wlan system running here in south wales

regards

bb
